Slow Food’s urban garden field day:
Plant crops with students of the East Side Garden Corps
Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Meet at Community Design Center headquarters
731 E. 7th Street, St. Paul, MN
We invite all Slow Food members and friends to spend a morning in the fresh air helping teens of the Community Design Center's East Side Garden Corps with planting and cultivating. You will meet some extraordinary young people as well as fellow volunteers from Les Dames d’Escoffier.
The Community Design Center has worked with St. Paul youth for decades. Their East Side Garden Corps engages kids from St. Paul’s East Side in sustainable urban agriculture in its seven organic vegetable, herb and flower gardens. The program teaches basic job skills, sustainable growing methods, and healthy lifestyle and food choices. It helps young people become involved in their community and to make connections to career opportunities.
Please send a note to Karen Couné through the contact form >> if you’d like to attend.
Bring garden gloves if you have them. Snacks are provided, and we are considering having a potluck lunch if there is interest, so be sure to let Karen know whether you’d like to take part in the lunch.
